Our range of hand crafted, wooden, musical animals, include; musical frogs, wooden owls and ducks and many more wooden musical toys. All our products are individually hand carved and painted by skilled craftsmen. Choose from hand carved wooden musical toys, art packs and wooden animals. They are truly a unique piece of workmanship. By playing the wooden animal you are able to make the sound the animal would make. To make these hand carved wooden toys takes time and patience, the procedure has many stages.
All our products are made from either mango tree wood or coconut tree wood.
Stage 1 The craftsmen take a cube of either type of wood, roughly the size of the animal they are going to make and place it with many others into a large container full of water, they leave the wooden cubes for about 3-4 days. This 1st stage makes the wood easier to work with when they begin to carve.
Stage 2 They dry off the wooden cubes and spend many hours carving the animals they want to make, until they are happy with the shape and form.
Stage 3 They then put the carved animals into another large container and suspend it above a fire which continually burns for up to 2 days. This stage will dry out the animals and harden the wood.
Stage 4 Once out of the container they sand the animals to make smooth and reach it's final form. At this stage it is the shape of the animal, but it is a solid piece of wood, which does not make a sound, yet!
Stage 5 Next, using a special machine, they make a hole in the animal and carve out the interior wood, leaving a hollow wooden animal. This allows the animal to create it's sound, by either blowing or by rubbing the sticks along the jaggered areas of the animal.
These 5 stages are to produce a natural wooden musical animal. There are more stages to complete if you prefer an oiled or painted animal.
I'm sure you can appreciate that with anything handmade, all the animals are individual and will appear and sound slightly different to each other. This is what adds to their uniqueness!
